THE AMAZING WORLD OF DC COMICS INDEX

Published in the mid 1970’s, the Amazing World of DC Comics (AWODCC) was a fan magazine published directly by National Periodical Publications – or DC Comics, as they could later come to be known.  This magazine is the most important piece of Bronze Age history regarding DC Comics in existence.  The index was put together by a group of volunteers from the Bronze & Silver Age lists from the old egroups.com forums (see bottom of this home page for a listing of contributors - if you wish to view some of those old, non-working pages, use www.archive.org to look them up).  Also, we have a wonderful interview with AWODCC veteran Bob Rozakis coming up, reminiscing and revealing behind the scenes information on this wonderful publication! The magazine was printed on heavy stock paper and the covers were a heavy construction paper/ cardboard-ish-type textured paper (almost a heavy, heavy Bristol).  The header and logo of the magazine featured floating heads, respectively, of: Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman, Shadow, Sgt. Rock, Capt. Marvel (Shazam), Superman, Batman, Kamandi, Flash, Green Lantern, Cain, Aquaman & Tarzan.  The logo itself (the Amazing World of…) was taken from an earlier publication: The Amazing World of Superman, Metropolis Edition (published in 1973 by NPP, 909 Third Avenue, New York, N.Y.  10022).  Then a banner separating the logo from the art read “ * COMICS * MOVIES * ANIMATION * NEWS & REVIEWS *  BEHIND THE SCENES * ”  (* = stars - see the above graphic) and then the date & price.

There are graphics links for every issue to the front and back covers of each individual issue once you've clicked a link below to the text on each issue.  Just look for the highlighted words "Cover" and "Back Cover", which are direct links to the pics.  These graphics are provided via Tom Clark's now defunct Amazing World of DC Comics Cover Gallery on his Neal Adams Home Page.

Since Tom Clark's page has "gone the way of All-Flash", we've provided new copies that are now available with each issue and have supplied our own Gallery!

We sincerely hope that you will enjoy our offerings - E-mail us and let us know what you think!

THE AWODCC STAFF:

Index Contributors
This index began as a request on the Bronze Age listserv  (at onelist.com and then egroups.com, both now taken over by Yahoo! Groups) for such an index on the Web.  Seeing as no one knew of one existing, Brian G. Philbin suggested that perhaps one could be cobbled together through the efforts of Bronze Age enthusiasts on the list and elsewhere (the Silver/Golden Age listserv and Brian Philbin’s AOL DC Bronze board, “DC Comics/60's&70's/Discuss" - this can only be accessed by AOL).  Left Coast Ross had put the original question out and also provided a link to a gallery of covers put together by Tom Clark on his Web Page (Amazing World of DC Comics Cover Gallery - if you wish to view some of these old, non-working pages, use www.archive.org to look them up).  Tom was kind enough to allow us to link to his page and graphics for the usage of this index, as well as having contributed as a chronicler for this index.  The following is a list of the contributors to this index, the issues they covered and from which corner of the earth they “answered the call”.

Brian G. Philbin (Coordinator, Editor, Publisher, Webmaster) - Issues 1, 2, 7 and 9

Tom Clark (AWODCC Cover Gallery, gone the way of All-Flash - try www.archive.org to access) - Notes on Issues 5 and 16 – Cover Graphics

Dr. David A. Kell (From the Bronze Age List) - Issues 4 and Special Edition 1 – Notes on Issues 3 and 12

Dave Blanchard (From the Silver Age List) - Issues 6, 10, 13 and 17

Raphael Laufer (From the Silver Age List) - Issues 8, 11 and 14

Mike Kidson (From the Silver Age List) - Issue 15

Ross Richie (From the Bronze Age List) - Issues 3, 5, 12 and 16 (ToC & Indicia)

Kirk Stark (The Wonder Woman Pages, gone the way of All-Flash - try www.archive.org to access ) - Wonder Woman Logo, Issue 15

Hope you enjoyed this complete waste of time!

Pax, harmonia,

Brian G. Philbin
